The Album Years report by Cristina Negri
Venerdì 7 Giugno 2024 al West Hampstead Arts Club nella zona nord di Kilburn a Londra si è svolto l’evento live di The Album Years, a cui ha partecipato l’inviata speciale del Porcupine Tree Coma Divine Italian Fansite, Cristina Negri…ecco brevemente cosa ci ha raccontato.
È stata un’occasione davvero speciale soprattutto per l’atmosfera intima e informale che il luogo stesso proponeva, molto diversa da un concerto ma preziosa allo stesso modo per tanti motivi. Steven e Tim seduti su due comode poltrone poste in questo spazio molto ristretto al piano seminterrato del club (con pochissimi posti a sedere, non credo fossimo più di sessanta), hanno cominciato la loro chiacchierata parlando di come è nata l’idea del podcast e dei suoi intenti. Il tutto è durato un paio d’ore e si è diviso in due “atti”, la prima parte molto discorsiva, a detta loro per niente preparata, nella quale hanno ripercorso i punti salienti e i racconti legati agli artisti che di più sono stati protagonisti degli episodi più importanti.
La seconda parte è stata spassosa a dir poco, con molta interazione da parte del pubblico, e Steven ha fatto prima una sorta di top 10 sia degli album che degli artisti che di più hanno rappresentato il podcast. Dopodiché ha fatto una specie di “gioco a premi” chiedendo agli spettatori di indovinare la risposta alle sue domande per vincere un DVD e/o dei vinili che si è portato sul palco dentro una bag. Pensate che una delle domande è stata quale fosse la parola più inflazionata complessivamente nelle varie puntate del podcast da parte di entrambi! È stato uno spasso incredibile, e sono stati messi alla prova gli ascoltatori più attenti di TAY! Tra il pubblico eravamo in tre provenienti dall’Italia, due originari del Cile e un tizio che è venuto da Washington…tanto che Steven ad un certo punto ha chiesto ironicamente se fosse presente qualcuno di Londra!!
La serata si è conclusa con una chiacchierata con Steven che nel salutare tutti i suoi fan italiani mi ha detto che tra pochissimo verranno annunciate le date del tour, e che è molto più che emozionato! Ho avuto modo di incontrare anche Tim che è stato anche lui disponibile e davvero gentile. Torno a casa davvero con un bagaglio di ricordi preziosi.”

It was a truly special occasion especially for the intimate and informal atmosphere that the venue itself offered, very different from a concert but precious in the same way for many reasons. Steven and Tim, sitting on two comfortable armchairs placed in this very small space in the basement of the club (with very few seats, I don’t think there were more than sixty of us), began their chat by talking about how the idea for the podcast was born and of it’s intentions. The whole thing lasted a couple of hours and was divided into two “acts”, the first very discursive part, according to them not at all prepared, in which they retraced the salient points and the stories linked to the artists who were the main protagonists of the most important episodes.
The second part was hilarious to say the least, with a lot of interaction from the audience, and Steven first made a sort of top 10 of both the albums and the artists that most represented the podcast. Then he held a sort of “prize game” asking spectators to guess the answer to his questions to win a DVD and/or vinyl which he brought onto stage in a bag. Do you think that one of the questions, for instance, was the most overused word overall in the various episodes of the podcast by both of them! It was a blast, and TAY’s most attentive listeners were put to the test! In the audience there were three of us from Italy, two from Chile and a guy who came from Washington…so much so that Steven at a certain point ironically asked if anyone from London was present!!
The evening ended with a chat with Steven who, in greeting all his Italian fans, told me that the tour dates will be announced very soon, and that he is more than excited! I also got to meet Tim who was also helpful and really nice. I truly return home with a wealth of precious memories.”
